Amino Acids: What are they and why do you need them?

Amino acids are also known as the building blocks of our body. Besides building cells and repairing tissue, they also form antibodies which are used to combat different types of invading bacteria and viruses. On top of that, amino acids also build nucleoproteins (RNA & DNA) and carry oxygen throughout the body. When protein gets broken down by digestion the result is an array of 22 known amino acids.

 

Since amino acids are the building blocks of protein, it obviously makes them very vital to our health. Next to water, amino acids in the form of proteins actually makes up the greatest portion of our body weight. Amino acids are separated into two categories - essential and non-essential. Essential amino acids are those that cannot be manufactured by your body. This means you'll need to obtain these from your diet or from our Organic Pea Protein Powder. On the other hand, non-essential amino acids can be manufactured by your body. They also offer several other benefits including the building of cells and repairing of tissues, more assistance with wound healing and an increased athletic performance.
