Amino Acids: What are they and why do you need them?

Amino acids are also known as the building blocks of our body. Besides building cells and repairing tissue, they also form antibodies which are used to combat different types of invading bacteria and viruses. On top of that, amino acids also build nucleoproteins (RNA & DNA) and carry oxygen throughout the body. When protein gets broken down by digestion the result is an array of 22 known amino acids. Since amino acids are the building blocks of protein, it obviously makes them very vital to our health. Next to water, amino acids in the form of proteins actually makes up the greatest portion of our body weight. Amino acids are separated into two categories - essential and non-essential. Essential amino acids are those that cannot be manufactured by your body. This means you'll need to obtain these from your diet or from our Organic Pea Protein Powder. On the other hand, non-essential amino acids can be manufactured by your body. Still, you'll need to make sure your body has the right combination of essential amino acids and supporting nutrients to optimize healthy protein maintenance. This is why many people still prefer to use supplements to make sure they're getting enough essential amino acids. Twenty different amino acids are needed in order to build the various proteins used in growth, repair and maintenance of your body tissues. In total, eleven of those can be made by the body itself, while the other nine must come from your diet. Anyone who consumes an inadequate number of calories may not be consuming adequate amounts of amino acids. If this happens, the body resorts to breaking down the protein in muscle tissue and uses those amino acids in order to meet the needs of your most important organs. You may also not build additional muscle mass despite increasing exercise activities. Amino acids are not absolutely integral to life. However, they can have a profound impact on how clearly we think and how good our bodies feel. They also offer several other benefits including the building of cells and repairing of tissues, more assistance with wound healing and an increased athletic performance. If you feel that more amino acids are needed in your life, consider a change in your diet or adding the use of some nutritional supplements.
